Sumter is a an eighth generation Black Canadian multi-amorous, storyteller, photographer, and filmmaker
with Mi'kmaq, Cherokee and Scottish ancestry born in Winnipeg, and now an uninvited guest on unceded Territory Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh grateful for the welcome and teachings shared.
Sumter identifies as Queer, gender non binary, and in absence of direct knowledge of original culture due to the legacy of Canadian slavery and colonization is left here questioning. Work has been in support of BIPOC, Queer, 2STGD and sex worker communities and for Sumter art and writing is mostly shared privately and anchored in intimate expression.
